Long box is so handy. I couldn't get by very efficiently with a short box. It's the only truck I will by at least while I am in my current line of work.

Yep. Went long bed on the last truck and I'll never go back. At least not until the type of work I do changes. Went dually on the new one. So far that seems like a good move too.I like the looks of the short bed better, but man the extra room is nice. Especially, as said above, after auxillary fuel tank and tool box.

Don't know if it's legal, but I do it now and then.

I have, and will only have an 8' bed. I buy a pickup truck for what I can put in the back, not the front. I know I am in the minority, but I am fortunate that at this point in my life, I don't need my truck to serve double duty as a bus. Plus, don't regular cabs look so much better?

Yes, I actually think the reg cab/long box and the extended cab short box are the best looking trucks to me. For me the best work truck would be an extended cab long bed. But, yes I have a wife and kids and they have a lot of crap so I had to get the crew cab, and that made me decide on short bed for overall length and fitting in the garage. Next time I will probably get the long bed though.

That's a good idea but the chances of me having that in my truck bed all the time when I would need it are just about zero lol. I'd just hook the trailer up before I messed with that. Here's what some of you guys need....

i love having an 8ft bed. my next truck will be a supercab 8 footer. I haul my motorcycle all the time, and i dont want something that expensive hanging off the back of an open tailgate. A trailer is also not possible for me, because i don't have enough space to store it.

I have a 4' 2x4 i put crossways at the back of the bed that the boards sit on so the tailgate doesnt take the weight....yes the pivot point is more forward.

With an 8' box we end up with weight on the gate often, never had one fail yet but I guess there is always a first time. I have a headache rack as well we can lean them on (aluminum beams in our case) I just worry about the guys forgetting they are there and driving under some low hanging obstacle. I feel safer with them properly secured, marked and resting on the gate.

The only reason I bought an 8 foot box is because they don't make a 10 footer.

I carry 12' lumber all the time. I figure I need 2x as much inside as what hangs out.

I ocassionally grab a couple piece of trim lumber that are 16' and have to stuff them thru the back wind and between the bucket seats. So I was kinda disappointed that the '17s have a smaller window in the back .

I've got a 20' flatbed trailer for the skid loader and to haul hay that I can use if I need more than a few pieces.

It's funny how some can post a pic of how they use their truck and they get condemned, mocked and scrutinized for doing what they have to do with "their" truck. Heck, it's even legal if they flag it, and if the owner wants to do that... so be it. I'm sure he knows he may have to buy a new tailgate sooner than maybe the next guy.

Trading in my SC LB for an '18 SC LB. I love the look and functionality of this combo.
