Horrible way to treat patina. Why do people do that? Still I love a '40-'41 big truck. I could undo that fake sheen if I had that truck. Funny, yesterday I ordered 3 rattle cans of 'flat insignia red' to do some touch up on my red tonner. The primer has too much brown in it. I swore off fire trucks after the last one. A 1960 f600 with 3400 miles on it.
Yeah, as much as I love old trucks, I don't have much use for fire trucks. Generally speaking they are almost worth more with all that stuff taken off. Then at least a potential buy has vision about what to do with it. If it's still a fire truck all it's good for is parades and most guys don't want to strip one to get the truck. I'd say he's asking about twice what it's worth either way.
I'm still thinking about that 42 with 16,000 actual miles I can get for $1300 though. It has sat out so long there is very little paint left and the tires are too far gone to trust.
In Rapid city there is a micro brewery in an old fire station called the Fire House. All the way across SD on I-90 they have used fire trucks for signs. A few they stood on end.

Good beer and food at the Firehouse. I have a growler from there. I could have bought a 1948 F6 firetruck from my hometown. Less than 5000 miles. I only had use for the engine and i didnt want to part it.
