thats just a common problem with all our trucks. you just have to get used to it. mine has always slammed into reverse. change the u joints and transmission fluid and it still does it.
Mine sometimes slams into reverse. I hate it when it does that. A while back I read about an updated PCM thats supposed to take care of this, If you have the E4OD.
If you have the AOD then you can try adjusting the transmission TV cable at the throttle body.
1. Fluid level.
2. Fluid condition ( should be bright red not brownish).
3. Idle speed. Should be 6-8 hundred rpm warm.
4. Throttle position sensor. adjusted properly?
5. Check the throttle body area for leaks and sludge buildup.
Many engine sensors out of whack can affect E4od transmission performance.
My '94 used to do that really bad till I upgraded to a '95 MLPS. Fixed the neck breaking upshifting problems to. Good luck......Van

Interesting, what made you decide to do that? Is it a known fix? How did you adjust it? Someone in another thread said the connector is different on some years, did you have to change yours?
