240/300 Distributor Gears

I was reading some threads on Cam Gear / Distributor Gear problems (wearing out gears faster than normal), the thread was about 302 & 351 motors and I was just wondering if the 300 has any problems in this area?

I am going to install a aftermarket RV Hydraulic cam with some type of electronic Distributor. Should I run the normal supplied cast distributor gear or an aftermarket Crane/Mallory/MSD steel gear? Maybe a brass gear? Will be running a regular pressure oil pump.

This is for a pump gas street motor, normal 5500 RPM range.

V8 roller cams are steel billets vs cast iron flat tappet. Fortunately (sadly?) no roller cam in the L6 so no worries with distributor gears.
