I have a wifi hotspot on my '17. It's called my Iphone.
1. Problem with this not everyone has unlimited data on their current phone plan and its expensive to upgrade to it.
2. Built in truck wifi gets a better signal
3. Adding an additinal line or mifi you can not turn on/off month to month for those who have kids and just want unlimited access 1 or 2 months a year when they take an extended trip.
There is a need for it, using your current phone is not the best solution for everyone.
Agree with above post about not everybody having unlimited WiFi. I don't, we live in an area with terrible internet service, and if I had some free with my truck why not use it? I try not to give any more money to Verizon than I have to
What you guys are missing is that you'll have to pay for a whole separate plan for the trucks wi-fi hotspot.
It's LESS EXPENSIVE to just add the hotspot to your phone, and if you don't have a data plan, add that too... it will still be less than what my GM's vehicle hot spot plan was. And, I can't remember the exact figure, but it was way more than adding the hotspot to an already given phone plan.
So confusion abides. A vehicle with a hotspot is nothing more than a device that needs a plan to work!

The hotspot UNLIMITED plan for GM or ford is $20/month and you can turn it on/off month to month. All cell providers are going to be more than that for an additional line, and don't allow you to turn it on/off month to month... And if you go unlimited it even more for cell companies...

I see they lowered it. I paid $40 for 10gig limit after looking up my old bill. Onstar was the company that billed and AT&T was the service provider. Noting it wasn't nearly as good as my Verizon phone with service bars, especially out West.
For $20 flat/unlimited, it seems like a pretty good deal even if it is AT&T (still?).

I agree with your points here. Question, you mentioned that built in truck WiFi gets better signal, how do you know? Are there any tests on this? I’m always loosing signal when driving especially out west so any improvement is worth knowing. They should all come with boosters..
