2011 Ranger broken tailgate handle

With the latest cold snap here in New England, our 2011 Ranger's tailgate handle has broken. We have a high end metal tonneau cover over the bed, with no way into the bed without openning the tailgate.

That being said....Any ideas on how to get the tailgate open, so we can replace the handle?

Mine on my '03 broke a few years back here in Florida, seems I remember that 1 side stayed attached and I was able to grab the other with pliers to get it open.....

tailgate handle

Try using a thin screw driver push in on tailgate on each side, push the latch toward tailgate on each side. It worked on my 02 ranger xlt. Should work. Let me know.
