1974 Steering Column

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and have ran into a problem that I nor my garage can fix. I am rebuilding a 1974 F100 and can not find a steering column with 3 on the tree. I am trying to keep the parts original but after being stuck on this problem for a few months I am ready to ask for help. My mechanic claims he does not have the tools to fix the lost bushings, even thought I can find the parts.

This is the first vehicle i have rebuilt and the entire engine has been cleaned up and it runs like a charm. I had to fix the steering column since the gears got stuck and i could only access second and third gear. Is there really a tool that would make or break being able to fix my steering column?

Any help would be amazing. I have been rebuilding the vehicle for the last 2 years and this is the final piece i need before I start doing body work and rewiring.

Please send me an email and post pictures.

I believe it has to be a 30 in x 2in.

I have had a couple of these particular columns apart and and it is no big deal . No special tools and a little common sense with a splash of mechanical ability will do it. It has been 2 or 3 years since stripping one down but pretty straight forward if I recall. Most shops/mechanics do not like to tackle the unknown. It puts them out of their comfort zone I would guess. Good luck, you'll get it!

Fordguy2100 would you be able to post a picture so I can compare. Or send me an email at b2seth3@gmail.com. I would like to have a back up steering column so I can properly take the time to rebuild it myself while driving the vehicle.

My fault. I must have deleted the email by accident. If you could resend an email that would be awesome. I am still interested in a manual 3 speed column for the 1974 f100.

That's so true. I only like the unknown when I'm working on a junker, or a vehicle which I know won't be running or needed for a long time, or on an item which won't sideline my ride - or someone else's.
The thing is: When you're working on a vehicle produced before 1980, most assemblies are going to be fairly easy to figure out.

Looking to purchase another column. I stripped the white metal near the coller on my column that prevents me from shifting gears. If any1 can help me out send an email to b2seth3@gmail.com since I'm unsure how to set up notifications for this site.

Thank you in advance
Seth
