USB ports

Is there a difference between the two usb ports or are they identical in function?

No difference. The 'U' in USB stands for 'universal' ...

Edit: I was referring to the two in the front. The rear, as pointed out later, are for power only.

they both go to sync, but I cant plug in 2 phones at same time. it keeps giving me errors, ie device not supported. I can plug a single phone into either one and they work fine.

OK, thanks guys. I could have sworn I read somewhere that one of them was used only for transferring data etc.

The two up front are interchangeable and connect to Sync, while the two in back simply provide power.
