Your VIN is not a '60s vintage number for F-series trucks.
The warranty plate will be found in one of several places: the drivers door below the door latch, inside the glovebox, or alongside the radiator on the radiator support frame.
The VIN (not the warranty plate info) can also be found stamped onto the frame, on the passenger side, along about where the engine perches sit.
The grill is a '64, but it could have been swapped out when the fender was changed (they would have had to drill extra holes to make a 64 grill fit on a 63 - I have one of each and know for a fact the grills don't mount up the same) The plate 'looks' 66-ish, but Banjopicker is right about the numbers not matching up. Here is decoder site that works well: http://home.earthlink.net/~jcpurut/vin/vin.html Two things come to mind on yours: Where was the plate located - Is it located on a part that could have been swapped from another truck? And since it's a Mercury truck and not a Ford I wonder if the codes are different?
as an afterthought by looking at the one side-shot, the bed appears to be one of the 61-63 miss-matched ones...
I think you have a mystery mutt on your hands! It should still be a fun toy...

I believe the VIN plate is correct, however the Mercs have a little different coding system. There was a post a while back on decoding a Merc, check to see what you come up with and I will dust off the memory and see if I can find something.

Give this a try: On the frame rail, somewhere about where the engine mount is, you should find the VIN stamped into the top of the rail.
Try cleaning that up with a wire brush, try to find it.
That VIN may be slightly different in style, perhaps without the 1992 for example, and may therefore present a clearer picture of your truck.
If you look at the last 6 digits but ignore the B, you appear have a May '61 truck on your hands - which doesn't make sense.
Sorry I cannot be of any further help, but if you discover the frame VIN, and learn it is in any way different, post back.
