I have a 2016 F150 Crew XLT 4wd. I really like the truck overall. However, I have this persistent vibration between 55 and 62 mph. It is mild, but I feel it throughout the truck. passenger seat is visually vibrating. I have the tires replaced by the dealer and it seemed to fix the issue (80%) for about a couple thousand miles. Now it is back at 100%...
Yes, it could be tires, but what is causing the issue? Maybe the driveline is not balanced? Like I said, it fixed or appeared to fix about 80% of the vibration, not 100%. My dealer wants to have me swap tires with a new truck, again. Maybe the Wrangler tires Ford gets are all junk???
The wranglers tires that came on my 2014 xlt were absolute junk, truck vibrated, wore horribly, then put some new wheels and tires on and it all went away. Glad my 15 didn' come with wranglers!
I would bet on a tire(s) out of balance. When I first got my new truck they found 3 of the 4 tires out of balance. The right front was 2.75 ounce out of balance. Imagine that!
I would concur OEM supplied tires come from the low cost bidder and are designed to hold enough air to get the vehicle off the lot. I suggest "witness" the balance and observe the run-out of the tire / wheel combo, how much weights are being added and if they are added in the right place, then rechecked after weights installed. If tires look okay and seem to be balanced then yes, the drive shaft might be the next thing to check however you said that the problem went away for a while, which would seem to indicate a tire problem.
I had read whereas the OEM tires are junk and actually had one replaced immediately after 700 miles as it would not road force balance. Then at about 3000 miles, the vibration had increased to annoyance level. Ford swapped wheels with an new truck and I felt the vibration was gone. So, they ordered up 4 new replacement Wrangler Fortitude tires. I griped but they said the warranty only allowed direct model replacement. So, I felt or guessed the vibration was gone. I could feel a tiny bit of atypical ride, but heard the F150 rides that way normally.
Now it is about 4000 more miles on those tires. I took it in to the dealer and they said my tires were out of balance. I said I thought you balanced the tires when you installed them. It did not change anything with the balance. So we are back to the same annoyance level of vibration and the dealer wants to do the same thing with another set of wheels, then order me new tires I am guessing.
I don't want to keep doing this over and over. Do I have to only get the identical junk tires Ford says I have to?
Ford dealers also sell tires. Offer to pay the difference for the tires that you want. BTW, I have 295/70/18 Toyo ATs on my factory wheels. Perfectly smooth for 20k miles now.
I doubt your were ever the problem. I also had Wrangler Fortitude tires and didn't like them at all. No balance issues with mine, just too soft.
