Underbed spare carrier for dual-tank F-250?

I know most folks hate underbed spare carriers, but I mostly use my truck for a camper, and the spare is kind of big to be constantly moving between the kitchen and the back seat. There's no hardware down below, but it looks like there should be room for an underbed spare.

Can anyone confirm that, for an '88 F-250 diesel long-bed with dual tanks?

I looked in the Factory service manual and the undermount spare tire carrier was offered for the 88
F250 long bed with dual tanks.

I second that. I had an '88 dual tank F250 longbed myself and it had the underbed spare holder.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't add one. I actually like the under bed spare. Alot of people say they hate them, but how often do you need to remove the spare anyway.

You should be able to get the parts for one from NPD or LMC. I know they have some of the parts. I think they even have a diagram of how its put together. If they don't have everything check Ebay.

My 89 F250 duel tank has the under tank spare rack. As long as you don't have a "extra" compacity fuel tank, the spare rack will fit.

I agree 100%. To me the extra effort of getting it down on the side of the road (which I haven't ever had to do yet) is well worth not having it in the bed.

My F-250 didn't have one when I got it. I got one off an F-150 and it fits perfect.

They are a pain, but I rather do that than always moving it in and out of the bed to haul something... I've had to use mine on the road twice.
I welded the long bolt head to the carrier so it won't spin....

Talking

I have both an '89 F350 crewcab dually and a '96 F250 standard cab. Both of which have the under bed tire carrier. The both are the same. LMC trucks catolog DOES have the parts you are looking for and a diagram. An added plus is with the design of the hanger you can easily use a padlock to slow down a would be thief from steeling your spare. (for some of us this is a concern) As stated in another response, you should have no problem unless you have the larger capacity(aftermarket) fuel tank.

My '89 dual tanker F250 has the under tank carrier. You should be able to find one at a boneyard for cheap. Put some antisieze compound on the fasteners to save yourself some headaches down the road.

Here is the appropriate page from the '89 Ford truck service manual. It is for f150, f250, f350 with dual tanks it contains the part numbers and names.

Me too!

We better get the center bolts replaced or the spare may fall out and they'll confuse our trucks with Toyota Tundras.
