Is this right?

Awhile back I bought a tailgate for my 66 F100 2WD. Ordered the shortbed flareside tailgate (49 13/16" wide X 19"" tall) from Dennis Carpenter and it was too small. Had to get the longbed tailgate (54 13/16" wide X 20 3/4" tall). No big deal. Starting to look at wood bed kits vs. doing it myself and got to wondering if the bed is from a 66 F100. Pictures below show the top rail is flat and not angled. Curious to know what the PO might have done here. My painter does not think it was shortened from a long bed. Again, sorry for the big pictures, don't know how to shrink em.

A 1966 would have a flareside bed. I'm not 100% sure but I think they went to the flat top sides (vs the flared or angled top) in 1973. This is the year they went to the wider frame in the back for the F100.
In any case, your bed is not from 1966.

Simple, the PO replaced original bed with a 1977-1979 Flareside box.

Pictures not too big. You need to stand back a bit and let us all admire that sweet paint job. I have a 1966 Flareside and it has the angled tops. I agree with tripleframe yours is from 77 1/2 - 79

Thanks again all. Didn't figure is was the original box with the flat side rails, need to make sure. Just another PO issues not identified at purchase. But, I like the look of the flat rail and am not upset about it in the least. On to the bed

Ranger - Thanks on the paint job. When I picked out the color code, my painter didn't really care for the color until he applied it. Loves it now and has even painted another car this color. I just call it Vickie Sue Blue (after the wife).

I really have nothing to add, but I'd love to see more shots of the truck

Here's some older ones from Oct. Just took her back to the body shop to fix some paint issues. Got thousands of pictures from the rebuild from the past 4 years (I'm never in a hurry since I retired). After fixes, on to the bed and new wheels. Couldn't get the interior shot to rotate.
