overheating

i have a 302 bored .060 without a thermostat hooked to a 3core radiator. the gauge sometimes gets between 190 and 230 but it does not steam, bubble or overflow into the catch can. i don't think it is overheating but i want to make sure. it also has a c6 with 2 seperate tranny coolers, one in the radiator and one in front of it. i don't have a clutch fan hooked to it. it turns all the time.

The motor was bored .060? As a note if no one mentioned this to you is when you start boreing things out past .030 especially on sbf you may encounter cooling problems. 230 is pushing it too far next to the edge, and no thermostat is holding your fate, you may want to install a 180-195 thermostat see if that helps you may want to keep an eye on your thermostat. I would say your tranny is taken care of. Are you trying to say you have a flex fan on your engine?

overheating

you do realize that not running a t-stat can cause it to over heat, especialy running a 3-4 row radiator right? I bet you think that sounds nuts right? how can it overheat with out the t-stat?
Well because a 3-4 row radiator especialy a large one like in a truck can move a lot of water thru it very quickly, The thermostat also acts as a restrictor
to controll the water flow, so with out it you can pump the water thru the radiator before the air flow can compleatly cool it,, DW

Just another note, on overheating, Small Block Fords were not called (Thin Walled Henrys) for nothing, with that block being 0.060 it wouldn't take but one good overheating to split the cylinder walls. DW

0.060 is to much in my opinion but i had a 302 rolor cam that run about 230 and man did it have some power as long as it dont go over 230 i would do much to it but yes a thermostat is a very good idea. fords always run ahell of a lot beter around the 230 range but you have to keep a close eye on it and i would run the dog crap out of it just take it easy on that old thing. also try putting on a clutch fan with 7 blades and a fan shroud would helpalot.

it stays right between 190 and 230 cruising and around 230 sitting or driving slow. it is probably around 210 when cruising. when i put it in the t bird it will have a 180 thermo and the 3 core radiator in it. with a fan shroud
