Have always started a diesel with a key. Turn the key on, wait till the squiggly lines go off, then start the truck. Now with keyless start, and remote start, I have been pushing the start button or hitting the remote start and it starts up.
Should I be doing anything different? I can't really do anything different, as far as I can see, with the starting system. Just curious as it has been cold here in northern Ohio.
The start up is pretty much controlled for you. Other than the regular stuff, plugging in the block heater (if you have one and if it gets that cold Ohio) Winter Diesel etc. etc. I don't think you can't really do much else. These new trucks start up amazingly quickly, its been below freezing here for the last couple of weeks and my truck starts like its the middle of summer.
Thanks for the help. They do start almost like gas engines today. And really don't sound much like a diesel either. I actually miss the diesel sound a little.
Dad has couple 300hundred hp tractors and combines. They still sound like diesels but even those are much quieter than they used to be

They are quiet you're right, but I have to say I appreciate it on long drives. Amazing power delivery.
Those who trust big oil companies say you don't need, it, but using Motorcraft PM23 anti-gel in the winter makes me feel a little more confident that my diesel fuel won't gel up when it gets really cold outside.
