Classic morning sickness. As mentioned get that oil out of the system and try some Lucas oil. Sure sounds like water got into the old fluid. I have saw it to the extent it took two people to turn the wheel on a cold morning on a manual box.
Since it's a 4x4 - does it seem to make any difference if the hubs are in or out? Stiff knuckle joints can do strange stuff, might be worth locking them and trying it, or even run a few tight circles in a parking lot to see if anything changes......
Also - have you tried adjusting your steering box a little? Endplay on the bearings can do similar things.
na, whether in 4 wheel with hubs locked or hubs locked but t case in 2wd or with hubs unlocked always does it with no differance. Steering box was a rebuilt unit about 3 4 years ago i got from lmc i think not broncograveyard. Steerings great with very little free play in the steering wheel.

im gonna try, quick and easy at least. Should i runs power steering fluid or atf? Has strait power steering oil in it now.
I prefer good power steering fluid myself. I know they both have pretty robust anti-foaming properties, but I think p/s fluid would be more appropriate.
And in your case, since you're already having trouble with it and can't (yet anyway) verify whether there is in fact moisture that's freezing up inside, or what, I would choose some expensive synthetic stuff for this go-round.
This could even be the Lucas stuff the others have talked about if they make actual power steering fluid, rather than just an additive for your existing fluid.
I have also had very good luck with all the Lucas products I've tried over the last 40 years or so, but my last p/s fluid change was with Royal Purple. Just because I hadn't tried it before, rather than for any actual trouble I was having.
Good luck no matter which way you go. I do think (and sure do hope too!) this will help your issue.
I had a similar problem with a jeep I had when it was cold. Steering was stiff and if you try to turn it would be stiff them boom it would turn quick till it warmed up. Mine turned out to be a bad steering stabilizer, don't know if that could be your problem but its worth a shot.
