A) Turn on a/c and the clutch/compressor clicks on and off every 5 seconds.
B) Air is no longer cold.
C) Feels like car will shut off while a/c is on.
D) Blower works fine.
E) Never had a/c serviced.
Question:
I wanted to confirm that it's just that the a/c is low on freon and/or may have small leak. I was informed that I could perform a recharge of the system and put a sealant in the system that checks for leaks and will seal the system up again. Reason why clutch is clicking on and off is b/c the gas is leaking some where.
If your truck feels like it is going to stall when the a/c is on (if I understood you correctly) sounds like you have more going on than just low refridgerant.
Here;s a link within this forum that discusses some do it yourself recharging options:
Thanks. I corrected the problem this past Saturday. The truck was just low on freon. I purchased a do-it-yourself kit at Advanced Auto Parts for around $16 on sale. It was fairly simple to do. I used a 19 oz. can w/ gauge reading that also contained oil for sealing any leaks. So far so good! Hopes this helps others in the future. I think I will have the coolant flushed before the middle of fall comes in.
