Bumper hitch question

Just got new dually. When I picked it up, the bumper hitch did not have the inserts to make it receive a smaller hitch. When I questioned it, salesman said that's not included anymore. They did then get the inserts and included it with the truck.

Questions are:

1. Was salesman right? Are these inserts not include anymore?
2. I have several hitches I use for trailers but all are the smaller, I think 2.5 inch size. Should I get bigger hitches and would that add carrying capacity?

2. Each hitch and ball have a different rating. Your truck’s rating doesn’t ever change no matter what size ball amount you use. You have to check the individual mount and ball. You can find a 2” 8,000lb ball mount and mount a 15,000 ball on it. Only rated now to 8k. You can install a 3” 30,000lb ball mount with a 5,000lb ball, and it is only rated now to 5k. Just make sure every component you use is rated individually for the load you tow. Yes, you can generally find higher ratings on a 2.5” or 3” mount when compared to a 2”. Just match both the mount and ball to your towing needs.

Sound like you missed you chance to tell him he is full of *****. They ship from the factory with the reducers down to 2 inch, and a 20K pin. Then ask him if he is willing to lose a 70K sale by trying to sell you them separately.

They included it after I checked so I let it go. My wife says I can be too confrontational so I pick bigger battles for that. Yes, I was pretty sure they should be included too. Think the reason they are not on the trucks in that lot was that if it was not locked down, it was stolen

Sales guy told me the boxlink doo-dads weren’t included. I argued with him for a few minutes but he wouldn’t budge. I then lifted the back seat and there they were. He changed his story and said they were only included with certain trucks. Not all sales guys are goofs but the few that are make the good 9nes look bad too!

Every truck I looked at on the lot had the adapters in the receiver so I’m gonna say they’re included. And I plan to get a new ball mount for to fit my new truck. It’ll be for the trailer I pull 95% of the time. For the others I think I’ll just use the adapters and the old ball mounts I already have.

Interesting about the box links things. Salesman said they were included but not installed because of theft at their lot.

This is the 6th truck I have bought in 17 years. Have liked most of the salesman I have visited with over the years but their knowledge leaves a lot to be desired
