Today I was backing out of my driveway and I encountered a pretty massive failure. The truck will shift into reverse, and will drive backwards, but it feels like its binding (think like making a tight circle while in 4x4 on dry asphault) and it makes lots of popping sounds.
My two questions: Is my transmission done? And how bad is it to swap this ****er out in my driveway.
I guess a third, is it worth my time and money to upgrade to the 6r80 transmission that is used with this engine in the E-Series vans and 12th gen f150?

I can do it. Can you? I don't know your skill level. It's heavy and you'll need a transmission jack, but it isn't rocket science.

Are you willing to spend more than a brand new, loaded F-150 costs to get this done? It's a long, long way from a plug and play. The mechanical modifications to get it installed are pretty straightforward. Creating the wiring, computer, and software to make this work are WAY above what most professionals are capable of doing. How skilled are you at writing transmission software?
Thanks Mark.
As for my 3rd question, seeing as a 6R80 is double what a 4R75 is, I'm gonna stick with my original.
I've looked around for good transmission, and the best place to buy I'm seeing is Best Buy Transmission out of Florida. They seem to be very reputable with good build quality, and a 5 year/100k warranty, well, no one else has that. I guess we'll see how this goes.
