First Service questions.

Hi all

It has been years since I went to a dealer for a service appointment. I am nearing my first oil change and am wondering:

1) Should I switch to a full synthetic? Have never used this in the past. Mostly a people mover except for towing in Summer months.
2) Is there anything specific with the 17 Superduty that I should have the dealer look at or inspect during this first appointment?

The switch to synthetic is a choice you will have to make. I don't really care for syn blends so I will be switching over to full synthetics at my first oil change.

If you are not experiencing any problems the dealer should do I multi-point inspection, tire rotation, and you should be good to go.

I have been using full synthetic oils... since 1974,

I change mine over at 1,000 miles... but I do all my own work..
stick with the Motorcraft oil filter.. be sure to ask for it.. even at the dealer.

a new truck.. normal inspection is all that's needed. unless "YOU" see a problem/issue.

Thank you. I will definitely ask for motorcraft filters. Still undecided about which oil to ask for. Might stick with blend. Want something I can get anywhere anytime.

Wal-Mart carries about everything in oil you could use unless you go boutique oil like I run in my Charger. Mobil 1 should do all you would want and they carry it and Motorcraft filters.

YES, Mobil 1.. full... most weights... Wal-mart.. and they carry the 5 quart jugs.. and put it on sale sometimes...

and they also carry Motorcraft oil filters...

I get (2) 5 quart jugs.. engine used 7 quarts... so I keep extra till next oil change..

Mobile 1 and Amsoil both rated at the top on an unbiased article I read. The full synthetic I used rated low on most of the categories so I did switch to Mobile 1 15k full synthetic because Walmart has it for less than most people. I prefer the Pure 1 oil filters but a lot of people here like the Motorcraft filter. After the "break in", I change the oil every 10 k and filter every 5 k. Been doing this routine for about 27 years. I tend to keep the my vehicles a long time.

Been using Motorcraft Syn Blend in the truck. It seams to run quitter than the Mobil 1.

Also run the Motorcraft Syn Blend in the wifes Edge after running Mobil one that created a very minor oil leak in the engine valley. The leak completely stopped after running the Motorcraft Syn Blend for a year now.

I switched to synthetic right away on my 6.2. Mobil 1 full synthetic extended life. I change it every 7k-10k whether it needs it or not!

If only the rest of the people in this thread knew that regular Mobil 1 is not synthetic...

Only extended life is synthetic.

Motorcraft semi-synthetic oil and filter is good to go, you will never have a oil or filter related failure and can expect full engine life using them, having said that I am OCD and only use WIX filters and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in everything I own, both are a waste of money and offer nothing over the Motorcraft oil and filter but again just me.

I have no plans to use anything but the Motorcraft Synthetic Blend and the 820S filter.
