I'm having an issue on this 351 Ho. The emision sticker is all torn up of course.
My questions are
1) what's the timing spec ?
2) is this engine using manifold or ported vacuum source?
I have it on ported and base timing at 10° now.
I'm having a 1/3 throttle carb backfire pop. If I accel slower it will not happen. I just got this running and this carb is off my FE that was problem free. It did the same thing with the oe carb and I thought that was faulty.
Even a pic of a factory emission sticker for an 87HO would help.
Thank you for any help.
What condition is your plugs cap rotor and wires? You've eliminated the carburetor as a source of the problem so what's left is fuel and ignition. What is your fuel pressure to the carburetor?

New fuel pump(leaking) same before and after.
Have not gotten into ignition other than cap and rotor are new. Prob next week before I can get it back into the garage to work on.
My next step would be to see if I had a vacuum leak somewhere using some carpet cleaner.
Some days I wonder why I still play with these old beast but when they finally dialed in their great. Good luck.
I just swapped an aluminum intake on with the 600 Holley. Sadly the scenario changed none. I'm thinking I'm going to do plugs for sure first as I just got this and not sure how old they are.
I really like this ol' dude. I already have a beautiful rust free bed, doors, new fenders. I want to make it look decent for daily driver status. I have already gone thru front end and brake system. As a bonus I got a 40-20-40 mocha SC seats to swap in. Yea that was a long shot find.
Wow carpet cleaner.. should have been carb cleaner. I'm with you on the old girl, I have almost completely rebuilt my suspension and breaking systems, fuel system, ignition system, charging system... I'm starting to run out if systems to rebuild 😎. I have driven this truck for 10 years between me and my dad owning it and I love the lack of a payment.
