Its API approved and mostly made by WPP. Its a mid range oil with decent TBN and good flash point. But the HT/HS is on the lower side. I would keep it under 5k when used with a HEUI system. I use a ton of it and have for a long time in lots of equipment and no failures. Also most tractor supply stores are clearancing out the 2.5 gallon jugs for 11.99 if you can find them. I picked up the 12 I could find local.
A friend on here uses it in his OBS 7.3 with really good results. I think you could try it and see how the truck idles/runs. If all is good, go with it. My experience has been that the truck will tell you if it likes it or not. It's a good oil, but the 7.3 can be picky at times.
I've been using travellers since my last oil change (fixing to do another one soon). And have had no issues with it. I haven't sent any for analysis though, so I can't offer much technical insight. However I've been happy, and the truck has been happy with it.
I had 2 reasons for switching to travellers oil.
#1. It's on the Ford approved list (if it's not already posted, I can find the link tonight), and the other diesel oils sold at my tsc weren't on the list.
#2. My wife works at tsc, so I get a discount on the oil, now if only they sold the motorcraft filter...
Rural king has the Harvest King brand oil for $7 a gallon, I wouldn't be suprised if it is made by the same company as Travelers. I wouldn't hesitate to use it as long as you change it every 5K and use a good filter. All engine oils have to meet certain specs before they are allowed to be sold to the public.

This is the oil my truck ran like crap on, and I mean like right away. I wish I could have used it. It's very affordable.

I've been using Travellers for years. I buy it in 5 gal buckets. Have sent several samples off and they always come back good. Ran one change to 10k on Blackstones recommendations. Currently running 7-8k between changes.

I've been running synthetic every 5000 miles. If the stuff came in 5-40 to deal with winter, I could think about it.
I would never try to cheap out with engine oil. Think about it. It's your engines blood. A good synthetic is not only good for your motor it's insurance also!

Um, not at all. The only benefit to synthetic over dino is that you can run it a little longer, but then you get into UOAs. It has long been proven that synthetic protects no different or better than dino. It's all marketing and nothing based on fact. An engine run on Rotella with 5k oil changes is no better for the wear than the same engine run on Mobile TD. It just costs more, but the wear effects are the same.

I believe it helps with cold weather starts as well, which is the only reason I run it. Otherwise, I believe that, for the most part, oil is oil and I buy whatever is on sale at the time when I do my cars.
