Hope somebody can help.. My 2006 Expedition with the 5.4 won't start. I thought it was the battery so I bought a new one and installed, still no start. It will not crank. My first thought is the starter, the truck has power. I'm away now, so I'm trying to figure out the problem so as to get it fixed when I get back. Obviously I will check all the fuses as well. Thanks everybody..
You can try pushing up the gear selector into park or pull it down into neutral and try to crank it. At least you can eliminate one possibility.
If your headlights dim when you try to start I'd say it was the starter.
What is the anti theft light doing when you turn on the ignition and then try to start it? If it's flashing rapidly, it means it hasn't recognized the key, thus it won't engage the starter. Another possibility is of course the gear selector, step on the brake while pulling the gear out with the ignition on to release the gear selector lock.

OK, I'm back and checked the R1 starter dealt, its good. Checked the alarm, its a solid red when trying to crank, so I think that's good. Checked the gear selector, put the key in and applied the brake and was able shift and lock back into park,
When I try to start it I hear a light click, so I'm think the power is going to the starter but the starter is not engaging..

Well I bought a starter and after a couple of hours and some beers had the new starter installed and the truck started right up!! Thanks everybody for their input, can't go wrong here. Cheers all.
