Usually the truck starts perfect, but lately every once in a while it doesn't want to crank. A couple scenerios: 1. I can turn the key to start, nothing happens, but while holding the key, a few seconds later it will crank and fire right up. 2. I can turn the key and hold it as long as I want, and it's completely dead. I can try cranking it repeatedly, nothing happens, and then I can try it again and it will fire right up. Odd. One of my thoughts was maybe the gear selector sensor(neutral start switch) or possibly the key switch. The batteries, starter, and selonoids are all recently new, so I'm knid of ruling them out. Anyone else have this problem or what do you think???
One of the first things I do when this happens is with the engine off, move the shift lever from top to bottom quickly a few times and then try to start it. You can get violent with it if you want. It make me feel better
The starter solenoid may have loose or corroded connections. Take a look at the starter connections too. AFter you get it started jump out and see if any of the stater connections are hot, if so that's the first place to start.
If you suspect the neutral safety switch place the truck in something other than P or N and hold the key to start, move the lever up and down. It should engage the starter at the same position everytime it gets near N or P. IF not the TRS need to be serviced. Check the electrical connections on it for corrosion or loose.
