I thought this would be an easy issue but I'm not find any thing. Here is my situation. I'm swapping out the 6cyl in my 85 F150. The new engine is from a 2000 Explorer, 5.0L. It came with no brackets. I can spend months searching for Explorer 5.0 brackets OR I can buy new Mustang brackets now. So the question is this.
Can I use the Explorer harmonic balancer with the Mustang brackets and all the pulleys will line up?
The engine did come will all the distributorless ignition system. I would like to use it since the Explorer HB has the 36 toothed wheel.
Are you installing the Explorer EFI system too? Cool project if you were.
As for the brackets, it is my experience that if you want to minimize search time and headaches just grab a complete bracket/pulley set from another 5.0 or 5.8 pickup in the scrapyard. If you want a serpentine belt then you want '89 or newer. There is no guarantee that a mix of parts from different vehicles will line up.
The Explorer used the same timing cover as the 94-95 Stang (Front End Accessory Drive) so you might want to use those year's setups as a parts source. The water pump is different on the Stang, but uses the same timing cover so keep that in mind.
