Well I had my f-150 for 6 years and it's time for a new cluch,I called around and they want to charge 650.00 I thing i can do it myself for a lot less then that .My question is has anyone ever had to change the cluch out had do you recomend me doing it mtself had is there an e-z way to do it.
Thanks JohnTrevino
two wheel drive - peice of cake. four wheel drive - harder cake to work with.
rent or borrow a tranny jack, and it is fairly straight forward.
if 4wd, it is easier to remove transfer case from rear of transmission.
make sure to replace everything while you have it open. make sure flwheel is resurfaced or replaced.
get some studs to install in the back of engine to help guide the bellhousing back on. in fact, if you have two peice bellhousing, I find it even easier to seperate the bellhousing from tranny if too heavy( for example if you have a t18 or similar cast iron unit.( I doubt it in a 95!!unless it was swapped in)
Thank for the info,I started at abought 1:00 P.M. yesterday and finished at abouhgt 6:00 P.M. sameday .I did this all on my bacK in the driveway every thing went smooth the only problem I had was the the hydrlic line bleeding the air out.I saved abought 400.00 dollars and I know that it's done wright.Maybe you can help me out it still need some more bleeding I just cant get enough preeure back on the peddle.
Your friend John.
My friend had the same problem after we changed the clutch in his explorer. Ended up we bled the clutch cylinder(can't think of better name, its 0300 and no sleep). After we started bleeding it the pressure started coming right back.
Just to let everyone know that when I took my cluch out it wasn’t in that bad of shape it was the cluch sylender located inside the transmission I noticed that there was hydrolic oil leaking out of it I went ahead and changed the cluch out while I was there don’t forget that this truck is 6 years old and the cluch still had another 40 to 50k miles left so we all need to remember that cluch cylinder I heard that this is very common in are ford truck's so dont ever take your truck into a shop saying that you need a new cluch because all they will have to do is change your cluch cylinder and you will think that they changer your cluch and wouldn’t even know it .
Your friend John
