2018 timing issues?

So I have a buddy that went and bought a new Denali claiming that he did so because of an issue with the timing on the new powerstroke? He said that they would just shut off and not restart until the codes are cleared and sometimes when the codes are cleared they would then throw a rod? I didn't even know the 18s had hit the lots yet since I have yet to see one up here in northern Utah. Is this really a thing or was he just hearing some made up BS from a Ford hater?

IMHO, ask your buddy what he’s been smoking.

I think the end of you statement probably applies. The new Denalis are very nice though, they were number 2 on my list when I drove the big three. In the end it was no contest though, I remember thinking, yep, I am just a ford person.

I chatted with him about it a little more and he said that there are two people he knows personally who have had the problem. You would think that those two people he chatted about were two of not very many people that have it and if the two of two people he know has them that problem would be so prevalent to all the others on the road they would have issued a recall by now. Also it would be so bad that Ford would have seen it in their tests. At least I would think so.

If you haven't checked already, you might try the 2017+ forum, there may be more info there

I haven't seen any major issues (or threads) like that in the 2017+ forum. It sounds like someone is spreading FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt).

kind of hard to get the timing off when it is gear driven.

I sense that this person is just trying to justify their desire for the Denali. They are nice but in the end it has to be the whole package when you consider it's use.

The Ford does a better job in the end to me...

I agree. He said that Ford trucks were $10K more for a comparable package and I called him out on that. If you compare the Denali and Platinum Ford has so many more options on it than the Denali. When I listed them out for him he just said well that stuff just wasn't worth the extra money to me. Which is fine but in that case you need to start comparing the lariat to the Denali not the platinum.

Sounds made up to justify the purchase of a GM. I'm fine with that, purchase what you like. Plenty of grandpas enjoy their Denali trucks. No need to run the other brands down to justify a purchase.

Sounds like someone who should join FTE and spend a few days reading Rodney's thread. He would certainly learn how to properly research an item prior to purchase.

It may not have even been that the buddy came up with the story to justify the purchase of the GM. It could likely have been the GM salesman wanting to make a sale, while slamming the competition. Maybe the buddy just bought his BS line. I've seen that many times before where someone talks from their rear and you just KNOW it's complete BS. I don't take their word for anything after that.

Dealers in Utah have had 18s for a couple of weeks now. I've looked at a couple while I've been shopping. I've been scouring the 17 &18 threads for a month and I've yet to see the problem you describe mention in any post

And Yes Ford is not discounting trucks like GM and Dodge are. GM has a major update coming soon and everybody is waiting to buy that. So they are not selling the current trucks very fast.

And Dodge has always had a lower price than Ford to entice buyers to try their product.

That is just the problem of us linking the Class leader, We pay the price.
