F250 Questions - Payload, Size

I'm online window shopping for new trucks; and right now, I'm stuck on an extended cab short bed 4x4 XLT/FX4 with the 6.7 diesel. My garage has 7' doors and is 23' from front to back; while a crew cab will fit per Ford specs and my measurements, it won't leave much wiggle room. It all really will come down to what I can find, though.

If anybody has a similarly equipped truck; an F250 with super/ext.cab, XLT trim with FX4 and a 6.7, could you post your payload sticker? How do the numbers on the payload sticker compare with that on the actual rating label?

My current truck is the OBS F350 in my signature, which I plan to sell or trade (likely put it on here for sale). It's been a great truck and constantly gets compliments and offers to buy; I'll miss it, but am ready to move on. It's "rated" towing specs per the manual aren't much, I want more (& quieter) power, an auto transmission so my wife can drive it, and a ride that doesn't spill half my coffee before I can drink it. When I had my boat (I will have another) which was likely around 8k gross, I only towed it a few times a year, and only heavily loaded the bed a few times in the last 8 years.

My future plans (realistically) are to haul general home-center & landscape crap in the bed, perhaps a snowmobile or at most a sled deck with a pair of sleds (1500lbs??), pull a snowmobile trailer with gear (2500-10k gross range), eventually pull another boat (guessing 7500-13k gross range on the top end), things like that. I've probably overloaded every truck I've owned at some point, but tend to look at that situation from a completely different angle as I'm getting older (liability).

My inner Tim Taylor wants the max available capacity on everything (heavy tow pkg. or F350), but I'm also a bargain shopper and can't expect to find (or afford) something like that. I was originally hooked on a Titan XD Cummins; nice trucks, but the capability/price just isn't there.

Your guys' feedback is appreciated!

When I purchased my F350 (ordered May, arrived late Aug), I looked at the differences of F250 and F350. The F350 was a nominal amount more, had a different transmission and I think rear end. And the ability to have the higher rated GVW was there. But the trucks are pretty close to the same things. The interior options are exactly, it is only some functional issues (trans, rear end and GVW). All things considered, I chose the F350. Good luck on your purchase and I am sure you will be happy with whichever one you choose after looking at it closely.

Super crew 4x4 6.7 with the 6.5’ bed is going to have a payload of about 2500 lbs. mine is 2200-ish with the HD tow & gobs of options I don’t really need. this number is based on the GVW of 10k. Lots of posts on here talking about the “true” payload capacity of a 250. I’m 100% certain my 250 can handle a lot more than 2200 in the bed, but it’s not really an issue because most of my loads will be on a trailer anyways. And the 6k lb load I pulled the other day with about 1000 lb in the truck wasn’t even noticeable. The 250 is an extremely capable truck. A lot more so than the sticker on the door jam.

All that said, if registration and taxes weren’t a concern I would have gone with a 350 just to legally have a higher payload just in case I ever needed to legally have it.

The F250 KR I looked at had a payload sticker of 1880. So we went F350, which gives us 3250. Big difference. If you can find a 350 in the price range you want and optioned as you need, its an easy choice.

imho the only way to get a decent payload on a 250 is with a 6.2. This is based on the 3180 payload of my current truck and the stickers is have seen on identical trucks with the 6.7. Nearly a 1k hit to payload with the diesel.
