Traded in a 2012 F250 crew cab short bed FX4 6.2L gasser, yadda, yadda, yadda. Loved that truck, but it beat me to death on the rough roads around here. The new truck rides so much better, really hugs the curves, and gets way better fuel mileage to boot! I'm a believer!
Put Rancho XL9000 shocks all the way around and set front at 4 and rear at 3 when unloaded and really improve your ride. Just did another 600 mile round trip today across Iowa's back roads and just a real pleasure to drive the F450 and very comfortable.

I had the Rancho’s and airbags on the 250 and they definitely affected the ride. The longer wheelbase, wider stance, increased weight, and stronger frame of the new truck make for a ride that I am very happy with.
I can still tell I’m crossing over the railroad tracks at 55 mph, but only just.
I’ve read that installing “ Sulastic Shackles” can improve ride quality empty and loaded. Anyone heard of them?
Just watched a couple videos. Very interesting. It’s a proven technology common on travel trailers and fifth wheels.
My only concern is that I am so happy with the ride right now that I cannot imagine a 50% improvement is possible.
Other than mud flaps, toolbox and fifth wheel hitch, yes it is.
I had the FX4 option on my previous truck and really didn’t like it so didn’t get it on this one. Perhaps that is the difference.
What’s you opinion on the ride of the new SD? I comparing my new 17 dually(FX4) to my old 14 dually (4x4). I would guess almost 50% improvement.
I went from a 2016 F-350 CCSB diesel 4x4 to a 2017 F-350 CCLB diesel 4x4 dually. I felt the ride quality of the dually was "as good" as the SRW truck from before, which was a win...
I don’t have a previous generation SD to compare to but my 17 DRW has the FX4 and camper package with 6000 front springs and the ride is good and solid. So far the only road surface that seems to ride poorly on is the concrete road sections typically in larger urban areas and cities. I run my tire psi unloaded at 65 front and rears at 60.
Not duallys but I replaced a 2007, F350, CC, 8ft bed, 2wd, SRW with the pictured 2017 F250, 6.7, FX4. The ride and drive characteristics of this truck are remarkable. The ride is smooth and composed on most any surface. Handling is excellent. Steering is very accurate and precise with excellent balance and feedback. Stability at cruise is remarkable. I was very impressed. My F350 was not in the same league. It embarrasses the Dodge and is a step increase better than the Chevy.
Wife and I took a 2,300 mile round trip over the Holidays in my '17 F-350 DRW...truck rode great once we got on the interstate hwys. Averaged a little over 550 miles per day and other then hitting some rough spots on the rode it rode almost as good as the '13 F-150 I had. Averaged 16.3 mpg on the trip running at the posted limits. Have 10K miles on the truck and no gripes about the way it rides. Bought it mainly to pull our 15K pound camper.
