Problem. I've got a 99 F250 super duty diesel. A few days ago my wife said the horn went off wile it was in the driveway, I was at work. That night a heard a relay cycling under the dash when I opened the door. It stopped when I started the engine, but the horn was dead and the AC fan will stay on after the key is off. The next night the relay sound was back and the "off" light on the gear shift for the overdrive was flashing wile I was driving, but not all the time. I know what that is for. Tonight the relay sound is gone but the headlights will come on all by there self. I turn the switch on and off and they go out. Only to come back on latter. it's dosn't have an alarm system on it. I'm open to any info, I just got the truck and I'm not up on it yet.
I had a Ford that did the same things. I found the short in the door plate below the driver's door. Some wires melted together from water damage and rust. It was a 1993 truck though.
The gem module can turn on the horn. and the headlights are independant of the gem so you better look for smashed together wires somewhere maybe down near the steering column.
I had a similar problem with my 99 F250 superduty diesel.
The horn would come on and stop when the door was opened. Then after closing the door the horn would resume after about 30 sec. I also don't have an alarm. I pulled the horn fuse, then the airbag light came on and the overdrive light on the shifter lever was flashing.
I disconnected the batteries and left them off for about 30 minutes. after reconnecting them, the problem cleared up.
It has resurfaced again about a year later. Haven't discoed the batteries yet, but this may be some kind of computer glitch that just needs a reboot.
