I have a 1993 Explorer 2WD with the A4LD Tranny. Everything was fine til about a week ago I noticed Tranny fluid under the truck. I added fluid and went on about my business. I noticed that when shifting whenb I was doing about 45-50 MPH, it would not go into gear right away and would slam into gear real hard. Then, a few days later, I could hear the Tranny shift but would not move in any gears except for very slight movement. I replaced the filter and changed fluid but same problem. I was hoping anyone out there had suggestions before I go get it rebuilt. Thanks in advance.
BTW, this would be the second time I have had to get it rebuilt. This one has been in for about 4 years after the last one burned out the OD.
Sound like you got a bad torque converter on your hands. If you ran the tranny too long with low fluid, you most likely have internal problems as well.

I would recommend an ATSG manual for the A4LD and the update manual as well. If you do not have them, Get them before you tear in. They are great manuals.
