i have a f-150 95 model with the 302 what kind of fuel economy should i be getting?i have put the k@n filter in as well as a new o2 sensor whats next? i get about 10 now?
10 mpg on a stock 2wd 302 F150? I get 16+ out of my 300 I6 and that is with a moderately heavy foot. The 302 should be getting about the same if not better, somewhere between 16 and 19 I would expect, but absolutely not 10.
I have a '93clubcab with the 5.0 and a 5spd. It is also a 4x4 and has 31 inch tires. I am getting 18 mpg(canadian) right now which I figure is not too bad. I have had it up to 20 if I drive conservitavely.
I have a 95 F150 with a 302 automatic. It has 31x10.50x15 tires 3.55 gears and it gets about 14 or less sometimes close to 12 i think. It has a k&n air filter and a flowmaster with the larger rear cat removed. I think I should be getting better mileage too. It came stock with 3.08 gears. I figured with the larger tires and the 3.55 it should get fairly decent.
My 1988 f250 4x4, 4.11 gears, and AOD tranny gets anywhere from 14 to 17 mpg.....
Now I have gotten 20 mpg out of my 1980 but that is partilly because of the gears and shortbox...
1988 Ford F250 4x4, 5.0 liter (soon to be Roller 5.0), AOD tranny, 2.5 Dual exhaust, Headman Shortyheaders, 33" BFG's Mud Terrain
1980 Ford F100, with 1988 5.0L Roller (carburated), T-5 five speed Borg Warner World Class Transmission, 31 spline 9" 3.73 posi , and a bunch more!! 13.78 quarter mile.
Which lines exactly do you disconnect and connect where?? Do you disconnect the rear one and plug it in on the top of the intake plenum? If thats the case you shouldn't need excess hose. That hose runs right past the little tree on top. Sorry.. but I'm a little fuzzy about this.
I just read that gas mileage that poor may be due to a restriction in the exhaust such as a plugged catalytic converter. But then I would think you also would lose power at higer speeds.
What transmission, gears, and tire size are you running? I had an 88 that got 10 MPG. It had a stock 302, C6 tranny and 3:55 gears along with P235R7015 tires.
i have the 5 speed tranny with stock gears 3:55 i think.the tires are 235 75's.i have put the k@n filter in it as well as msd 5 and a new oxy sensor.i just bought it with 132000 on it but rns like atop. i put new plugs, plug wires ,cap @ rotor.i need to know where to go next as far as sensors?
I was also getting poor mileage with my pickup about 13mpg(1989 F150 2WD 302 4speed auto 142k). I heard that the poor mileage could be caused by excessive exhaust backpressure, so I was able to have a local Mienke shop do a backpressure test for free. Turns out both cats were bad. I changed the exhaust system to true dual with full length headers with no cats and my mileage increased to 19mpg combined city and highway. Maybe your mileage problem is with your exhaust.
The heaaders were full length Flowtech that I got from my local Checker Auto Parts ($120). The mufflers were the shortest glasspacks I could find Checker generics ($20ea). I had the pipe bent at a local muffler shop to clear the tranny crossmember and the exhaust dumps right ahead of the axle ($40). I just had him bend them to measurements I took. I told him they were for my 1971 Mustang so he would do it. None of the shops in our area will work on exhaust unless it has all the emissions hooked up, which I don't. Total I had about $200 in it. I did notice a good power increase while driving. It was definitly worth the $200.
