I have a 351m with a Edelbrock 1406 600cfm with an electric choke, in the winter it runs fine. However in the warmer months the choke almost seems like it starves the truck to the point it almost stalls out. Then you here a snap sound, the choke releases and it runs fine. Will do that once or twice until it is warmed up, but only in the summer months. Is there a trick to getting these things dialed in correctly or should I just toss it and get a Holley. Hopefully you guys can give me a hand with this one. I have tried to adjust it about 10 times already.
I am pretty sure, I have it hooked up to the starter solenoid. Should I not have done that. All my other carbs are manual choke, never had to hook one up before.
Usually it's the opposite, it floods out when it's warm - the snap sound must be the problem, maybe the choke spring hanging up on the housing, or your high-idle cam is sticking? Strange it doesn't do it when it's cold....
I don't particularly like electric chokes, either, they aren't really "adjustable", they work more like they're on a timer rather than running off engine temperature. They can be set up to work, but never seem "perfect".
I think I will try tapping off a line I ran for some driving lights hooked up to a keyed hot leg and see if that fixes the issue. After that I will file this thing in the "G" file and buy a Holley EFI and call it a day.
