Don't know if it's true, but I do remember a post similar to this one a long time ago either here or somewhere else in which somebody had mentioned that there were two 2wd '78 or '79 Fullsize Broncos that were specially built for some big company. I don't remember who they were supposedly built for, nor do I know if this is actually true.

That is a fact
And yes you can defonatly convert one to 2WD for street use but let me paint a little picyure for you.
You are sitting on the line in your built street 2wd Bronco
Some other guy is sitting next to you in his 600ci strker moter,d Bronco with a 200hp nitrouse kit and he has 33" sliks on all four wheel's and he is in 4 hi.
Who do you think would have better lounch caricteristics.
the guy with the 2wd Bronco. mainly because the guy running that much brute through a part time 4wd system, on a high traction surface like asphalt, would get about 50 feet before lockup tore the guts out of the transfer case and all forward motion would grind to a halt.
Man one ton running gear and axels on teh street what are you dumb. It would be way more rotating mass and if you set up a rear wheel drive properly youd launch mint. When did you see a 4 wheel drive car run at a 1/4 mile especially something fulltime 4wd.
Even one ton running gear won't prevent driveline bind and eventual lockup. And with 33" slick you still only get 50 feet or so before even an NP205 would shatter. AN NP203 would do it but again ... why? spool the rear of the 2wd Bronco and you'll have just as much traction as an open diff'd 4wd, less weight, and less complication.
I think the hot setup would be to run a stroked windsor with a c6 manual or transbrake valvebody in to a 9 inch with a airlocker have about a 3:73 rear gear and some 31 inch rear tires about 10.5-15 inches wide each. To lower it 4 inches all around would be just about perfect. If someone wanted to get fancy they could setup a 4 link raer suspension system. It would look really sweet proally not be the quickest but definatley be a neat hot rod.
