Dakota Digital GSS-3000 Install
We completed the install of the GSS-3000: Universal Gear Shift Sending Unit (dakotadigital.com) for the Gauges we used in this truck. Using newer gauges, with the transmission from the donor car (4R75), we needed something to adapt. This little sending unit/control box is pretty slick and does the hard work, but installing it on the transmission is up to you. The kit is pretty complete, but you need to take the universal brackets and make something that will work for your application. This is just a quick writeup of how we did this in hopes it will help someone doing something similar.
The kit comes with several brackets, so we took the one that mounts the 'sender' and drilled an additional hole in it so that we could use some existing bosses on the transmission. It is also not at a 90 degree bend, so we bent it to 90 so that it would line up better.
Bosses on transmission.
Dakota bracket with additional hole drilled it. We also cut off the original hole.
Here we mounted the longer arm on the sending unit and mounted it to the bracket after bending it to 90 degrees.
Mounted on the transmission with arm on facing the transmission.
We took another bracket that was in the kit and cut it down and drilled for the bracket that would mount on the transmission linkage.
Here it is mounted to the stock linkage. You will have to use some small hardware to mount. These are actually servo mount hardware from an RC car.
Here it is linked up to the sending unit. This is in Park and as you go through the gears, the linkage pulls towards the left.
This sending unit has 3 wires that go back to another box that is mounted inside the cab, and then that unit wires up to the VHX control box. From there you just need to go through the programming of the GSS unit. It also has a neutral safety switch built in and outputs for reverse lights if needed. This transmission provides the NSS and the reverse light output, so we only wired up the sending unit, the 1-wire control, power and ground.

Cool that you were able to get the truck out with your son and spend time with each other.
I also went to a cruise in Saturday, there was a pretty good turn out at it also.
I know there was a Lotus parked 2 slots over from me.
I did not get to walk around much to see all the cars & trucks
