Hows it going guys? I am currently building my dream truck and i would like a few ideas from you guys. I am currently ordering a 522 crate motor for my 79 ford 4x4 specs list it 600 HP and 900 HP for the supercharged package. I order the supercharged package. My main plans for the truck are to compleatly rebuild everything! i have it stripped down to the frame right now and im trying to find axless driveshafts,a clutche and i want a 5 speed tranny in it. I am also wanting the best handling i can get. I would like to also lift the truck just enought to put 38s under it .
What am i going to need thats going to be able to withstand the axle twisting tork? Rice burners beware
What are your thoughts in what i should do with this prodject?

Hey Markman! welcome to FTE!
First off, what truck are you starting with? An F-150? An F-250? Maybe an F-350? That makes a big differnce on the amount of work you'll need to do to get differentials that will hold up to that kind of power.
At the very minimum you'll need a high pinion Dana 60 in the front. Out back a Dana 60 might be OK but a 70 or 80 would be better.
Depending on what you plan on doing with your truck has alot to do with what gears you'd want but I'd say for all around use, something in the 4.56 range would be OK.
That's all I have to add right now....
Like Greg said, I hope you have some $$$$.

if I was you I'd work on the drive train to hold up with that motor. If you've got $12,000 to play around with now. I'd go with rockwell Front and rear axles. They should hold up to anything ya put em too. plus they come stock geared enough to run 40"+ inch tires. You can have em custom chopped so they'll fit under your truck like they came factory with em. Check this link out for some ideas. http://www.chuckstrucks.net/

Those are some beefy suckers. I might just go with those. But ill need to get my gearing figured out cause i want the ability to haulass and not be geard so low that im more worried about shifting then enjoying myself if you know what i mean . What should i order in the way in brakes on those? Should i get the dual piston caliper brake kits on those puppys?
Ok so now that we have the axles figured out. how about a tranny and clutch. It looks as if the M-37 Transfer case (NP200 style) is what i am going to need.

I have found a few more components that might work.
C-6 tranny with a 5-disc forward clutch with roller bearings
(stock C-6 trannies have a 3-disc forward clutch), a Turbo Action reverse-pattern manual valvebody, Fireball torque converter, , and a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter. Is the M-37 transfercase (NP200 style) better then the NP205?
Also Check this tranny out http://www.richmondgear.com/01fivespeed.html

the rockwell tend to have the brakes on the the axel where the drive shaft meets up. But i have to agree with the rockwell idea, if your running that much power and that size tires build you set and then you should have no problem killing the ricers. Keep us posted with pics on the build up, would love to see this monster on the road.

The more i look at the rockwells i think im going to have difficulty keeping my lift low to incorperate them into the truck. Remember i just want enought to have my 38s under the fenders. Also they look like there going to be hell to steer the truck around. anyone have any ideas? Just looking at the axles makes me think i would need almost 10 inches of lift to make the axles work.

Look at it this way, measure your old axel tubes and then the size of the rockwells, the find the springs you will need.I bet its not as much as you are thinking you will need. They are quite large tubes. You may need a hydro. (cant spell it right now) assist stearing system but i think any normal one ton system will work, just do not forget to add the steering stablizers on it, with out it you will be screwed. Come to thinking about it, with that size motor the power breaks should be no problem, and if you have questions i am sure you send a email to any of the monster truck builders on their web page and i am def. sure they will have your answer.
