I used to be a stick only guy...but I'm pretty sold on the manual valve bodied C-6s now. Just something to think about. I don't think a divorced would be stronger, just the opposite, you'd be adding more u-joints and shaft begging to be twisted up by all that torque and horse. Not that a divorced unit woudn't work...

Yea i think you have a point proeliator.

I ran across a tire fitment guide and it says for me to have a

39 will need fender trimming 6 inches of suspension lift

38.5 x 15 ill need 6 inches of suspension lift. thats without cutting the fenders.

I can run a 36 x 15 with 4 inches of suspension lift

and a 35 x 12.50 with 2 inches of suspension lift and minor fender trimming.

how much fender trimming would it take to get those 38s in under the fenders farther? or perhaps the 36s?

fourwheeler.com/techarticles/129_0304_FITS/index.html

still looking for a tranny......

I have posted on a few other forums on the tranny issue, i am having difficultiys decideing between an auto or maunel and having more difficultys finding one that will handle 900HP and 1000lbs or tork.

Anyway is there anything els that i should be thinking of at the moment? How about drivelines and U joints?

Tell ya what, I know I've told you this before but how about another quote from another knowledgable builder/racer from a different forum: (Dave McClain)

"The C6 is the strongest automatic transmission you can possibly use if built correctly. They require fewer aftermarket parts than any other trans to make them almost completely bullet proof. In something heavy they are the way to go. Noekle runs them for about a year in the monster truck before freshening and that's about 100 shows worth of use. If 9800lbs with about 1300 horsepower isn't a load to carry, what is??"

I still think a C6 is your best bet. Use CTM u-joints and talk to Jesse at highangledriveline for custom shafts. He makes some of the best. Can't advise you on the trimming, just buy the tire you want and then trim accordingly.

Cool 79 Monster Prodject

i worked on a friends '79 f-150 a while back. replaced the 351 with a 460/c-6 combo. ran it as a full time 4wd. the tranny was 5 speed stick. ran dual moroso ignition systems. 1150cfm carb was used for fueling. 36" super tires were used with 6" lift.considering v-10 to replace the460 in use noe

Good info pro. I'd never heard that about the C6. I knew they are tough. I guess I've seen too many stockers go out in a 4x4 with 35"s to have much faith. I've got a full manual C6 with additional clutch packs, HD drums, etc...etc... that I used in my drag car. Perhaps my faith is somewhat restored.
