Pluggingair injection pump

I have removed everything on the exhaust side. How are you guys plugging them to protect from the elements?

Old spark plugs work well. A shallow bolt also works.

What engine? Which things are you wanting to block off? Details help when posing a question.

Quote from Paul Conanski: plug the ports in the back of the heads with 5/8x1" coarse thread bolts with copper washers, and the air pump can stay as an idler or you can remove it and install an idler pulley

I have plugged the back of the heads, 302 engine, i was wondering if i need to plug the inlet & outlet for the pump.I have removed all of the lines except the inlet to the pump.I have plugged the solinoids vaccum lines.Would like to replace it with a idler, but plan on using the pump for a idler for now.Spark plugs work (for now) coarse threads do not work on mine.
thanks

If you plug the pump, it'll seize almost instantly. Ask me how I know. I ended up "gutting" the pump and now it just acts as an idler.

yeah, that is what i want to avoid. Some folks say the pump is hard to gut. Any ideas?

I didn't trust it as an idler, so I just removed it entirely and went with a shorter belt. But I have a 4.9.

Yeah the shorter belt is probably the better/easier route. As for gutting it, they don't make it easy to break into but not that bad. If I remember correctly there's a couple pins that have to be knocked out and then the internals comes out easily enough with a hammer and chisel.

When I put headers on my 5.8 I deleted the smog pump. I bought a eliminator bracket and pulley from summit. I was cheap enough and that way I can still run the belt it calls for.

I was wondering about the belt. If the original belt will work, i will put a idler pulley on.Mine is a 5.0, idler set up is different, but maybe it will work out.

I have noticed the mustang pulley is smaller than the one on my f 150, can you still use the original belt?. Thanks

Some people say yes the tensioner will take up the slack but some say they needed a shorter belt.
You can always get the idler pulley for the non AC bracket it fits the smog bracket and is the same size as the smog pulley
