Our SD has all the correct sound insulation, but it's much louder in the cab than in my buddy's X. I remember my X was pretty quiet too, for a Powerstroke.
So...what makes the X so much quieter in the cab wrt motor noise? Does the X have extra insulation under the carpet, going up to the top of the firewall?
I'm ready to tear that carpet out and lay in some more insulation. I've seen that project in FourWheeler mag, but I forget who makes the product they layed down.
My 05 Ex was quieter than any of my SD trucks, and would associate that with the volume of the interior being able to absorb sound rather than reflect. Previously I’ve stripped two of my trucks and used B-Quiet for sound deadening. Doing the floor and the insides of the doors makes a significant difference.
I remember when the X came out, and I ordered one, I read that Ford had upped its game on soundproofing the PS version. But that was back in the days of magazines...remember them? I tossed my old stack of FourWheeler years ago.
i call reading that the X had extra fender liner covers that helped keep noise coming out from round the shocks
and my friend has a SD and an X and the X looks to have more firewall insulation in the engine compartment
