I have a 2004 4x4 f350... I really need help. I have put a whole overhaul kit in my rear differential. When I go to accelerate from a stop, my truck like revs a little and violently clunks and shakes the entire truck and then stops if and when I get up to speed. Especially on a hill. After I get going it has no issues what so ever. It only does this when accelerating from a complete stop. It's hard to explain but it feels like it' slipping and then locking bad and shaking the whole truck. I can put the truck in 4x4 low and it has no issue, but if it's in 4x4 high or 2wd it does it. Please help.
When you say you put a "whole overhaul kit" in your rear diff, what parts did you actually put in and how far did you actually disassemble the differential?
Did you do it yourself or have a shop do it? It sounds like the gear mesh is not set correctly. If that is the case the new parts are probably already trashed. It will need to be completely torn down, inspected and rebuilt. If the shop that did it it if you didn't do it your self should be on the hook for new parts, if they won't stand behind it find a new shop that specializes in driveline repair.

Is there a chance the batteries were unhooked while this work was taking place?
If your FIL is an expert in diffs, it seeks odd it would still be a problem.
As others are wondering, it might be the trans perhaps.
