I recently acquired a 1972 F100 XLT. 5.0 3 speed. Was in a non running condition. I spent about a day or two getting it running. Its a power steering and power brake truck. My plan was to swap it to the 2003-up Crown Vic engine, trans, and suspension. seems to be the popular swap these days. After getting it running and driving, I am seriously rethinking my idea. I hate to cut up a perfectly running and driving truck. The engine is a mid to late 80s 5.0HO. Has plenty of power. No smoke. Trans shifts perfect. Im leaning towards adding the AOD trans from a Mustang and drop I beams. Then add the Explorer rear axle and front disc brakes. Would love to hear pros and cons from both sides. Keep the twin I beam or go ahead with the Crown Vic Swap. Or sell the truck and find one that is more of a basket case, Its two tone Winter Green and Pure White with awesome patina. Going to make a shop truck with my company logo. Must be dependable as a daily driver. Thanks for your time. Cant wait to see everyones comments.
My dad always said "if aint broke don't fix it"
oh and welcome to FTE
Thats kinda what Im thinking. I really dont want to remove a perfect trans, but I really want the overdrive. Its geared pretty low. Thanks for your input.
Get some 120 grit sanding disks, a few adult beverages and re-prime it. Do the O/D. Then paint it next summer.
Woooooaaahhhhhwww, Calm down. Wet sand 600-800, that will knock off the rust and get you to good paint. Then you can decide what direction to go with paint. 800 will give you the flat paint look.
That rear wheel looks like a car type. Check the rear end and see if it's a 9" or a 8.8".
The C/V swap lowers them too much IMHO. I prefer the height the DJM front and rear parts gives them. And do the Dentside disc brake swap at the same time.
