I'm confused as well. I've actually used the end of those bolts before to lift my truck on the driver side (not much room with the diff there) in order to leave space to put a jack stand in on the axle tube. I've done that many, many times and never seen an issue.

I'm guessing the bolts were over-tightened as well, but I still can't believe the bolts and plate would bend like that. That takes some serious pressure!

I am not sure about original thickness of that plate but they are bent on both axles I have. I feel that the plate is a little thin. Less than a quarter inch on both d60s.
