Mark, I cannot confirm what the response would be because I did not try it. Although, I suspect that nothing would happen. I think that one of the hot wires is the lock side and the other hot wire is the unlock side based on what the selector switch is doing.
By removing the ground, neither of the hot wires have a complete circuit and cannot function properly. So, whether the hubs are locked or unlocked does not matter to the ground switch that I have installed. The switch simply removes the ability for the hot circuits to apply power to the solenoid.
Everybody take note of this special occasion! Instead of being behind that 8-ball...
Hmmm...so this is what it is like on the upper levels? The grass is so much greener on this side...I better fill my pockets from the buffet before they catch me up here
I like to think of the hubs as using a “clicky†pen. On click for on (vacuum pulse) and then another of different duration for off....
The mod will not alter the state of the hubs on its own, merely interrupt any signal sent to the vacuum pump to change the present state of the hubs...
I assume you didn't have time to check out what is going on this past weekend, but just wanted to make sure there were no updates.
No, I was working on the house Saturday & woke up to snow on Sunday! Probably have to wait until New year now as we go away this weekend for our Christmas holiday. Thanks for checking in.
Just get rid of those junk plastic vacuum hubs and put a set of Warn or Mile marker manual hubs in. Then you will know if the hubs are engaged or not and they won't brake on you as easily as the factory ones do.
OK, quick update, before I came away I had time to check out the switch with a meter, all good, at the moment I have reconnected the factory plug to the vac relay the wires for the switch are still run for the switch but not connected so open circuit on the earth, deployment of the 4 hi & 4 lo switch results in fully functioning ESOF, go figure? I do have a meter with me so if I get any free time I'll investigate further but for the moment I'll wish you all a Happy Christmas.
This is so strange... Have a nice outing and get back to us when you think you have found something. Is it possible you have a fault in the wiring somewhere to your newly installed switch?

For my personal use the ESOF is great & works faultlessly, I only wish to have a 2wd lo option for shunting my trailer, especially on an incline. I'm old & lazy so don't want to be jumping in & out of the cab & getting my hands dirty to do this of it can be done with a simple switch.

I'm pretty good with wiring & it's all new cable, soldered & shrink wrapped, grommet where it passes through the firewall etc etc. I will be checking again though, I'm actually wondering if there's an issue with the relay, I don't know if it's possible to open it up & check for a short or stuck contact, this will be resolved. For now I'm just disconnecting the plug to make parking the trailer easier.
Any updates to this sir? I am going to be using my 2WD low mod soon due our first camping trip of the year and wondered if you had resolved the issue you were having.
Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts, I still haven't resolved this, when I've needed 2 lo I've just got out & pulled the plug, I'm letting a good friend fix his '55 Chevy in my workshop so can't get the truck in & it's still pretty cold for my old bones to work outside.
