What this post is referring to is the "Ford Remote Access" app, hardware (VSS, RMU) and subscription ($50/yr). You should be able to find numerous threads about it on this forum. Search for 'bobby' and 'banner ford'.

I just hotspot my phone for my kids when they are on their tablets. Personally I didn't see the need to have another bill if a vehicle I am buying has a wifi option.

I have OnStar in my '16 Cadillac ATS4, and I had it in the '16 Z06, which included the 4G hotspot. When the "free trial" ended, I never subscribed to keep it going. Paying another 4G bill seemed redundant when phones could be used as hot spots.
Might as well take the $$ you would be paying for the in-car 4G coverage and upgrade your cell phone data plan to unlimited data.
I did read a couple posts somewhere where some people claimed that the 4G hot spot in their vehicle was, at times, able to get a signal when their phone(s) didn't, but I never saw that myself, so take it for what it's worth (hearsay).

With that being said the price would have to be reasonable for me to justify it.

The unlimited Verizon plan on my phone comes with 2gb hot spot, already included in the monthly price I’m paying whether I use it or not. I haven’t checked on the ford plans, but I’m betting they are roughly $20-25 for 2gb. I, too, had a gmc with the hot spot and didn’t renew after the free period (nor did I use all the data during the trial period).
If you need more than your hot spot offers, I highly recommend looking into a mifi. It fits in the little drawer up front and can be charged by the USBs in there. Plus, you can remove it and use it wherever necessary (camping, hotel, etc). This is what I do to supplement my phone when I need to.
Why limit yourself to WiFi only available while in the truck when you have options that are much more portable? I did hear (or read) that the WiFi in the truck was supposed to have service where others don’t, but I never witnessed this in the gmc. Just my $.02.

The 4G / LTE hotspot in the '18 F150 is an ATT serviced plan. It is $20.00 a month for unlimited data. I didn't think I would turn on the hotspot in my '18 F150, but decided to before a 2k mile road trip. It is worth it. 3 teenagers and my wife managed to use 24 gigs of data while streaming netflix and watching videos. We drove from Houston to south central Ky over thanksgiving and it never lost service. Even in places where my ATT iphone had a weak signal, the hot spot in the truck still had a strong signal.
