Widow maker wheel safety modifications

The <47 Ford might be a good donor. Generally it’s the 48 and later trucks that have them. The IHC I think has 17” Budds (maybe 66520s?) that generally won’t clear drums on the inner rears. But even that isn’t gospel since we’ve heard of some where 17s worked fine. The 17” is the size equal of a 19.5” tubeless, so might be worth trying as cheap as that truck is. Stu

Yeah, IHC 140 models commonly came with 17” Budds having split ring Goodyear rims. I have a couple extra sets and have walked past many others in yards. Why a few guys have said they fit their big truck rear drums is a puzzle. Normally they haven’t fit while the 19.5s fit well because they have drop center rims. Stu

Thanks For all the input. Looks like finding a donor truck with rims is the way to go. That 47 in Rhode Island is a great example.
The cross section from Stu clears up the drilling option.
The truck has a pto driven dump. Hydraulic cylinder and pump are all one unit. Small “drive shaft” runs all the way to the unit.
I found receipts in the tool
box from Napa. In 1976 it was painted. Looks like with a brush. Custom mixed to match original color. A very good brush paint job. Not a drop on any trim or on any surface paint should not be on.
I have filled the Cylinders with oil mixture. Rolled is a few feet and popped clutch a few times. Still stuck. No plans to rebuild the flathead. Will be putting it up here once I pull it. I plan on replacing motor and trans with a 390 fe block and 4 speed this winter. I’ll leave the all wood body as is, just lower the sides a little. No plans for any major body work for a while. I figure mechanical elements will take me about a year.
Thanks again for all the input
