This may be a strange question, but I was navigating through a very dark campground recently in my F250 XLT, and had a real problem seeing the side roads where I needed to turn. Seems like the headlights don't give enough light off to the side of the truck, so once you get up to to road where you want to turn, it's completely in the dark again. It was a little unnerving making a turn on faith in an unfamiliar area while pulling a camper. It got me thinking about installing a light (2 lights actually, one on each side) pointing out toward the side of the truck wired to an upfitter switch. Anybody done anything like that? I haven't been able to find a good mounting spot though. Any ideas?
There was a guy on here awhile back who installed some long LED's between the steps and the body, he used them to light up the pasture. Showed some nighttime pics, it looked like the way to go. Cant remember who it was, couple of months back.
I haven't done any measuring yet, but I have the same problem. I am thinking that I could mount a square surface mount LED light in the side of the front bumper. Just one of the small square 4 LED lights.
You have a couple low profile options. You could put a couple spotlights angled off to the side on the front bumper like these:
Or you could go full on light bars between the doors and the floorboards like these:
Or both like I did! both are good options. If you don't mind stuff hanging off the roof or hood of your truck you could always put on a roof rack light bar or some lights in front of the mirrors that mount to the hood. That was a little much for me. I am very happy with my lights. Very bright and very cheap.
I've got a set of these mounts sitting on my work bench, just haven't had the time to install them yet. You could put some floods on em and point them wherever you'd like.
I have 60" flood bars mounted under each rocker panel, and they do a great job of illuminating areas to the right and left.
Another option is the Rigid Dually side shooters I think they're called. Strobes n More makes an equivalent. They shoot forward and have modules that shoot light sideways as well.
Mine has spot lights in the mirrors. Perhaps yours does too?
Have you ever actually used them out in the wild? They are pretty worthless. And they shut off after 5 mph, while only shining out make 5-10 feet, max?
Okay, I know this is not mounted on a factory bumper but look at how tiny this LED is. Surely you could make this fit somewhere on the factory bumper. I installed these just to light up the sides of the roads and they work great. They are Baja Designs S2 Pro. A pair of them spits out a whopping 4900 TRUE lumens. They are bright for such a compact unit. Baja Designs makes some of the best LED lights on the market. They are not cheap but you won't be disappointed. You can get them in spot, flood or combo like I have. I will be ordering a pair of the floods and position them to light up more of the immediate side of the truck as well.
