Starter screech
Hi. I just wanted to share what I found Incase someone else has a similar problem.
Ive been rebuilding my 89’ F350 460 E4od and after installing everything it was time to start her up. Just after I cranked it over I heard a terrible noise, almost sounded like a belt or a bearing but it only lasted a moment. I’m talking nails on the chalkboard, real bad. I could tell that it wasn’t the belt. Because I’ve had that happen before and I know that sound. This wasn’t it. After some diagnosis all signs were pointing at the starter. I pulled it and sure enough I found my culprit. It seems as though a bearing had gone bad on the shaft for the bendix. It has been a head ache but I’m glad to have gotten it taken care of. I got lucky it didn’t tear up my flexplate.
