Did a parasitic draw test on my 02 7.3PSD. Tested on driver side battery with ampmeter inline on negative cable. Passenger side battery was still connected Constant 190 ma draw with all fuses and relays removed and alternator and starter disconnected. I then disconnected negative cable on passenger side battery while still leaving the meter on the driver side battery and draw was reduced to 16 ma. Any ideas about this will be greatly appreciated.
What I don't get here is the difference with a battery hooked vs unhooked. That should be the other way around. Have you ruled out a shorted battery on the passenger's side? I had a bad parasitic draw and when all was said and done my alarm/remote start system isn't working and my draw is down to normal levels.
Karlow I do as a matter of fact have a Crimestopper remote start but when I pulled that fuse it made no difference in the amperage draw. Thanks for your input
When doing the test I left the passenger side battery hooked up and tested from the driver side battery. With everything disconnected including the alternator, starter and glow plug relays I was still measuring a 190 ma draw. It was only when I disconnected the passenger side battery that the draw dropped to 16 ma. Could a bad passenger side battery cause a draw on the on the system. One thing to note is that before I tested I charged the batteries but from the drivers battery and not individually. Is it possible that the passenger side battery was drawing from the driver side battery thus showing a load? My electrical troubleshooting skills are not my strongest!! Thanks for your help.......
With such a (relatively) low current draw, it very well could be the batteries trying to equalize out. One may have a slightly lower internal resistance than the other, or have a slightly higher state of charge......
