I posted before about low power. I took it to the dealer and the checked it out and said it was a clogged cat and a 5 of the injectors missing, fuel pressure below spec and FICM test failed. I replaced the oil and fuel filters before I took it in. They replaced all 8 injectors fuel pressure regulator and FICM. I declined replacing the cat, they left it apart so air would flow. I picked it up and the next morning it was cold outside and it smoked like crazy and smelled like diesel until it got up to normal temperature, then the smoke went away. I took it back to the dealer and they told me it had to much blow by and why it was smoking. Said I needed an engine. I know I have some blow by, but I did do the generic test by flipping the oil cap over and it just vibrates off, not a lot of pressure. I wanted a second opinion so I took it to another dealer, I just told them it smoked and to diagnose it for me. They came back with cylinder 5 and 7 injectors are over fueling and suggested replacing them. They gave me a power balance graph that shows 5 and 7 high and told me it should be close to a straight line. Would blow by cause a injector to over fuel? I talked to the first dealer (service manager this time) and he stuck to the blow by. I will be meeting with them tomorrow to try to come up with a resolution. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
So ALL 8 injectors were replaced with Motorcraft Injectors?
If you have capabilities make a video of cranking the engine using the starter trigger wire that is located near the passenger side firewall under the hood (key-off). The engine should be a smooth even crank. If it seems to skip a beat while cranking then there may be a mechanical issue.
Here is a pic of the trigger wire. Disconnect by squeezing and touch it to the + terminal and the engine will crank.
My thought is tell the first dealer to go pound sand.
They stuck 8 injectors and a FICM in your truck, and now are telling you it's time for a new engine?
I'm guessing they didn't use Ford remans either. Sounds like they like throwing parts at stuff hoping it fixes the problem.
At any rate, don't pay for the repairs until you reach an agreement of some sort.
Thank you guys for the responses, I am meeting with the service manager today. And I would think they were Motorcraft but have no idea. I will try to make a video later when I get home. And when I picked up the truck I paid for it, it was running and hot so no smoke. And if it matters its a 05 F250 6.0 manual with 166,000 miles. I did put a cat delete tube in place so the smoke went out the back instead of under the cab. I really should have bolted the cat back up to see how it ran with it back connected. When I pulled the cat out I could see light through it, so not sure how clogged it was, kinda feel like they were try to screw me more. By the way they wanted $2600 for cat and install.
Color me shocked.
There are a fair number of OEM's that are woefully misinformed about engine and model year problems.
Gets worse when the older skilled guys leave and young bucks come in thinking they will set the world on fire with that badge on the uniform.
Not knocking dealership guys, I know several and they are good guys that know their stuff...... but there are plenty of them out there that are just above running the oil rack, not that running the oil rack is a bad thing.
They think they are there to install parts, and often don't care about properly diagnosing things. More pressure comes from the dealer who won't pay them enough to put bread on the table unless they sell parts on top of the work.
I Figured I would take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it cause usually I throw parts at things and wanted to save some money and figured they would have the tools to do it properly. And Ive had great luck at the other dealers for diagnosing. Ive spent a lot on this truck now and cant really afford to take the loss if I sell it. The feeling I got on the phone is that they will stand by what the tech said that its blow by and needs an engine. Is this likely 2 bad remanufactured injectors? I just want to go in there with options.
I have a scan guage and there is no check engine light on. I did set up some guages on the scan guage. Is there one that will monitor the injectors? Or are you asking about stored codes?
The dealer said they would replace 5 and 7 injectors. The tech said that wouldnt help that it was the blow-by causing the smoke. Ill take it in next week to have it done. Ill post the video of the cranking when I figure out how. If you guys have any other ideas of things to test in the mean time, im all ears. Thanks again for the assistance!
