I made the mistake (one which I won't repeat) of taking "Lucky " through a car wash for a bath, and the brushes ripped of the side molding on the driver side bed. There are about a dozen broken plastic clips attached to what looks like rivets. How do I replace the plastic clips? I can't find anything on the web except for old Cheby trim.
Hey there fe390, I meant more specifically how do they come off and go on? From what i can see, it looks to me like the plastic was riveted on at the factory?
I got the same thing happening on mine. The first three or four clips no longer are able to hold the molding down. I'm afraid somebody is going to walk beside the truck, and have the molding catch on them, and bend it backwards.
Please let us know what you find on this situation. I was going to call Carpenter as well to see what they have.

Following. Same thing happened in a car wash with my '71. Took the passenger-side molding on front fender off. Didn't notice until later in the day. I immediately went back to the car wash, and they found it, unbent and intact The clips that were left on the fender are metal and the springs that holds the molding in place were rusted. I ordered several from Dennis Carpenter: Molding Clip | Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts
I'm hoping/assuming that the old clips will come out easily and the new ones will pop on, but we'll see. They should arrive this week, so I'll keep you posted.
The pop rivets are 1/8”. Correct in you have to drill them out. It’s very simple, but use caution. Just before the drill goes through, lighten up on the pressure of your hand. If not you will bottom the drill out on the body. This creates an entirely difffernt cuss fest.
New clips and stainless steel 1/8” X 1/4” pop rivets.
At reinstall, use masking tape heavily around 1 or 2 clips to get the hang of the “pop” rivet/recoil. (Another cuss fest or maybe it’s my Incredible Hulk physic)
I was just hoping not to have to scratch the paint, seems to me if you could remove the plastic bits there would be a plastic clip that you could snap onto the old rivet.
