Have me a 2000 powerstroke. Do all work myself, Makes me proud to do so!
Upgraded two years ago to 38r turbo with 4" intake. (works like a dream)
replaced my interstates batts 5 years ago, I think they may need to be replaced. But still get solid 12.8's and above when charging and meter reads.
Problems is the clicking I'm getting while trying to start. (you know the clicking I speak of, turn the key and it sounds like gremlins are speaking behind the dash.)
Well, I replaced my starter with a BRAND new, NO REFAB. quick start, worked great for two days.
Then back to the clicking problem, Even with the new starter installed, sometimes get the cllicking to start, Then it will start ......then sometimes not.
Starter Solenoid?
I ran across a thread specifically for this but have not been able to refind it. My browser history had issues to I had to delete and start again. Just cant refind the thread. It had many photos of the solenoid ( new motor craft one too) and instruction on how to repair and or test.
Have you tried to measure the voltage drop when u are cranking it?
U could have a bad cable or bad ground connection. I would start by checking the voltage across the batteries during cranking, then across the starter during cranking
You are looking for an additional voltage drop somewhere in the circuit.
Measure between the battery (+) and the starter while cranking. Also measure between the negative battery terminal and the engine during cranking.
I would check battery and ground connections first. You have a starter solenoid on your passenger's side fender. You can apply power to
the small lug and/or jump the large ones with a heavy screwdriver and rule that leg out.
